Why You Need A Business Coach

Why You Need A Business Coach

If you want to start, build, or grow an online business, working with a business coach will be one of the most important decisions you ever make. It is critical to find a business coach that understands business fundamentals, marketing strategies, and understands the emerging technologies that are shaping our future.

Here is the thing, we don’t live in the same world anymore. The economy and market are shifting faster than ever, and if you don’t keep up with this rapidly changing world, you risk being left behind.

If successful business owners, professional athletes, and high-paid CEOs need a coach, don’t you think the same could be said for you and me?

Still need convincing? Here are some reasons why you need a business coach:

You Don’t Have A Clear Business Plan.

The first and most essential thing you will have to have right now is a clear business plan to guide you through the journey of starting and running your own business. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. You need a clear and comprehensive business plan to organize your entire process, set measurable goals, and track your progress. You shouldn’t skip this step as this is a crucial step that sets the direction of your business’s future. In addition, you need to have a plan in place to keep track of what you are doing and why you are doing it. Not taking these steps will seriously cost you money, self-sabotage, time, and possibly years of frustration.

You’re Overwhelmed

If you are overwhelmed and can’t get things done, the first thing to do is take a step back, take a deep breath, and ask yourself this simple question: Why did I want to start an online business? Having a clear understanding of what you want to achieve and why you got into business will make those hard nights manageable. Once you have a better idea of what you want to achieve, you will have the fuel to motivate you to work towards it. Once you can complete one or two tasks, you will gain some momentum and traction that will allow you to come up with new ideas, new actions, and most importantly, new results.

You Don’t Have Time.

Being a Business Coach in Toronto, I hear this all the time. I tell my clients, that the first thing they need to do is figure out how much time they can spend on their business. The truth is that if you don’t have enough time to start a business, then you won’t be able to make it successful in the long run. Plan your time well and make sure to set priorities. This will help you stay laser-focused on getting the right things done and prevent self-sabotaging behaviors. As a business owner, you will be juggling many projects and wearing many hats; you will have to figure out how to balance your work, time, life, and all the other unexpected things that will creep into your days. One of the first things I do with my clients is to have them go through a time audit. This is likely one of the most annoying exercises you will do and the most rewarding for years to come.

You Don’t Believe in Yourself.

Your past does not equal your future. Unfortunately, most people carry a hypothetical bag of regrets, fears, and worries that have sidelined their confidence and kept them playing defense. Business is an offensive game and playing small won’t get you results. We have all experienced the feeling of doubt, self-sabotage, and inadequacy at some point in our lives, and this is normal, but you don’t let those fears dictate your future. Additionally, it is important to have people in your life that give you the perspectives, resources, and ability to go beyond what you could do alone, especially on those dark and challenging nights.

You Need A Different Perspective.

Starting a business can be risky, stressful, and overwhelming. You will spend long stretches of time alone, stuck in your head, and wasting weeks in indecision. A business coach can make life a lot easier for you so you can focus on doing the things you enjoy. Regardless of your talent, commitment, or genius, it takes another person’s perspective to help us see your blind spots, catching us before we do something we regret. Even brilliant minds need help to achieve things we previously thought impossible.

Summary

Unfortunately, most businesses will fail within the next five years. I hate to be so blunt, but this is the truth. The only thing that varies is how long it will take. But that doesn’t mean you give in, give up and settle.  With a business coach, you gain a trusted advisor who will guide you, put things into perspective, and provide invaluable ideas and strategies. Someone to help you with the correct planning, clarify your strategy, identify potential roadblocks, decide what you’ll need in the way of resources, and evaluate the viability of your idea before you even start a business.
